RECOVER
Recovers data from a corrupted disk. Recovers readable
information from a bad or defective disk.
Syntax
RECOVER [drive:][path]filename
[ drive : ][ path ] filename : Specifies the location and
name of the file you want
to recover.
Recover is designed to help in the case of hardware failure.
When a drive fails the failure is not always total, in other
words you may be able to read some of the files but not
others, and some files will be only partly readable.
The RECOVER command reads a file sector by sector and
recovers data from the good sectors. Data in bad sectors is
lost.
The data on a disk is stored in tracks and sectors in an
almost random manner.
Because all data in bad sectors is lost when you recover a
file, you should recover files one at a time.
Recover does not allow you to undelete a file.
Examples
To recover the file File.doc in the \Fiction directory in
drive D:, type:
recover d:\fiction\file.doc
